Austin FC joined Major League Soccer (MLS) as the League’s 27th club in January 2019. Austin FC began competing in MLS in April 2021 and played its first match at home on June 19, 2021, in the new, 100% privately financed, $260 million, state-of-the-art Q2 Stadium. In its second year, Austin FC finished the regular season 2nd in the Western Conference, while also making a run to the Western Conference Final during the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Austin FC is actively seeking an experienced and professional Director of Sports Medicine to work as part of a collaborative inter-professional team to develop, coordinate and administer a comprehensive medical, sports therapy, and injury rehabilitation & reduction program. The Director of Sports Medicine will manage and facilitate all orthopedic treatments, therapy and rehabilitation activities for athletes.    The position is based in Austin, TX and will be based at the St. David’s Performance Center. The role will report to the High Performance Director and Chief Medical Officer. Opened in 2021, St. David’s Performance Center serves as the Official Training Facility of Austin FC. Located at the Parmer Pond in North Austin, just seven miles from Q2 Stadium, the $45-million, privately financed, 23-acre complex is the training home of Austin FC’s first team, Austin FC Academy teams and home of Austin FC’s MLS NEXT Pro Team.
Are You Someone That:·    Is collaborative and innovative in your approach to athlete management?·    Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships?·    Enjoys working as a positive team player to meet goals? ·    Is agile and able to respond effectively to the changing needs of a fast-paced growing organization? ·    Has experience leading teams and understands the importance of communication? You Will:·    Report updated player status daily to the High Performance Director, Sporting Director, and Chief Medical Officer; and·    Lead discussions with doctors regarding the appropriate surgical or non-surgical intervention options post-injury; and·    Create a comprehensive programming for the entirety of the rehab process to be shared with all necessary stakeholders. This program should be shared and discussed with the appropriate members of the high performance staff; and·    Lead daily and weekly meetings with all relevant performance and medical staff members to update status of injured athletes and formulate new plans and programs; and·    Manage daily therapies and treatments, liaising with Head Athletic Trainer and physical therapist, and utilizing all medical staff, massage therapists, and chiropractors; and·    Manage the comprehensive assessment process with the high performance staff during the rehabilitation process to help benchmark and quantify where the athlete is at through the recovery period; and·    Liaise with the High Performance Director and Rehab Coach to determine the appropriate workload (on-field & in weigh room) during the End Stage rehab period prior to clearance for return to competition; and·    Establish a pre-season/post-season injury risk assessment & screening protocol for all athletes utilizing recent imaging, biomechanical assessment, and manual testing. The results of this program will be shared amongst the entire high performance staff and doctors; and·    Liaise with high performance staff to develop a multi-disciplinary recovery strategy for every player; and·    Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in sports medicine, injury rehabilitation, and performance advancement to enhance the team’s medical care strategies. You Have:·    Masters or Doctorate in Athletic Training or Physical Therapy·    Six (6) or more years of professional sports experience, preferably with experience in soccer·    NATA/APTA certification required·    Physical Therapist certifications as Specialist in Sports (SCS) or Orthopedic (OCS) Physical Therapy by the American Physical Therapy Association preferred ·    CPR/AED certification required·    Strong understanding of the challenges that athletes face, sports injuries, and treatment options·    The ability to prioritize workload to manage time and tasks·    English language proficiency is essential and Spanish language skills are a plus. Additional languages – even better·    High ability to exercise sounds judgement and discretion·    A commitment to diversity and inclusion both internally and externally·    An outstanding work ethic and attention to detail ·    Effective verbal and written communication skills, with diverse audiences
