Sheffield Hockey Club (SHC) is one of the oldest hockey clubs in the country and are proud to be one of the premier clubs in the North of England providing an outstanding hockey experience from participation through to elite performance.
We currently run seven male, six female and one mixed development league teams. Our men’s 1st XI play in the EHL North Conference and the women’s 1st XI play in the Yorkshire & North-East Premier Division. We are very proud to have produced and developed a number of players who have gone on to play for the home nations as well as in the Olympic Games for Team GB.
We have a successful Junior section with over 320 boys and girls aged 5 to 16 and are currently one of only twenty clubs to have achieved England Hockey Talent Centre accreditation/status in recognition of the quality of our junior hockey development programme.
Off the pitch, we pride ourselves on an inclusive and welcoming social scene. Our club has three important strengths. Firstly, our excellent junior section, introducing hockey to hundreds of children from all backgrounds and developing them for a lifetime in the sport. Secondly, our elite performance teams, playing at a very high level and receiving top quality coaching and resources. Thirdly, we strive to make every single member’s experience better each year, they are at the club.
The roles:
Men’s Performance Coach:
As Men’s Performance Coach you will lead our men’s performance programme, covering our first and second teams, who compete in the National League and Yorkshire & North-East Premier respectfully.
From pre-season training, player selection to match day coaching, this all-encompassing coaching role will require you to lead all elements of the coaching and development programme for our men’s performance squads alongside supporting player pathway development for our talented junior and university players.
The first team squad currently have two training sessions, one of which is shared with the Sheffield Hallam University Men’s first team on a Monday night, the other, on a Thursday evening. Part of this role will also require you overseeing the coaching services the club provide to Sheffield Hallam University men’s first team.
At the heart of this role will be to ensure our elite athletes have the right environment and support to be the best they can be both on and off the pitch.
Women’s Performance Coach:
As Women’s Performance Coach you will lead our women’s performance programme, covering our first and second teams, who compete in the Yorkshire & North-East Premier and Division Two respectfully.
From pre-season training, player selection to match day coaching, this all-encompassing coaching role will require you to lead all elements of the coaching and development programme for our women’s performance squads alongside supporting player pathway development for our talented junior and university players.
At the heart of this role will be to ensure our elite athletes have the right environment and support to be the best they can be both on and off the pitch.
Whilst SHC is initially seeking applicants on an individual basis for each role detailed above, we would also wish to hear from and will consider applications from candidates who may be interested in applying to undertake both roles above on a dual delivery basis.
What we’re looking for:
You will be an experienced fully qualified coach with previous experience and a track record of coaching at National League or regional premier (or similar) level. You will be able to demonstrate outstanding technical knowledge of individual and team principles including techniques, tactics and coaching trends and ability to apply the demands of elite level performance within a talent development environment.
As a stronger communicator, who is energetic, positive, and nurturing, while still ambitious, visionary and challenging you will be able to demonstrate a track record of coaching adults and developing juniors, integrating them into the senior set-up at the highest level.
Just as critical to success will be your organisational skills, strong awareness of self and self-regulation and ability to meet competing demands through your effective time management.
Ideally, we are looking for candidates with the ability to connect with and build relationships with a diverse range of individuals.
Both roles will suit individuals who has a passion to deliver consistent and exceptional programmes. With a ‘can do’ attitude, you must be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
