Physical Therapist

Austin FC joined Major League Soccer (MLS) as the League’s 27th club in January 2019. Austin FC began competing in MLS in April 2021 and played its first match at home on June 19, 2021, in the new, 100% privately financed, $260 million, state-of-the-art Q2 Stadium. In its second year, Austin FC finished the regular season 2nd in the Western Conference, while also making a run to the Western Conference Final during the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Austin FC is actively seeking a skilled and passionate Physical Therapist with a deep understanding of sports-related injuries and rehabilitation to support Austin FC’s high performance and medical staff. The Physical Therapist will support initiatives of injury treatment, rehabilitation and prevention in a manner that educates players to optimize performance.     

 The position is based in Austin, TX out of the St. David’s Performance Center.  The role will report to the Director of Sports Medicine and Chief Medical Officer. Opened in 2021, St. David’s Performance Center serves as the Official Training Facility of Austin FC.  Located at the Parmer Pond in North Austin, just seven miles from Q2 Stadium, the $45-million, privately financed, 23-acre complex is the training home of Austin FC’s first team, Austin FC Academy teams and home of Austin FC’s MLS NEXT Pro Team.

Are You Someone That:·        Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships?·        Enjoys working as a positive team player to meet goals? ·        Is agile and able to respond effectively to the changing needs of a fast-paced growing organization? ·        Is able to handle high-pressure situations and adequately adjust?·        Takes pride in maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and discretion? You Will:·        Deliver hands-on therapy and utilize advanced techniques to accelerate recovery and enhance performance; and·        Utilize various modalities, therapeutic exercises, and manual therapies to improve player’s physical well-being; and ·        Implement proactive measures to prevent injuries among players and conduct regular screenings to identify potential risks; and·        Assess injuries and develop individualized treatment plans for players to promote optimal recovery and minimize downtime; and·        Oversee and administer comprehensive rehabilitation programs for injured players, ensuring timely progress and safe return to play; and ·        Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in sports medicine, injury rehabilitation, and performance advancement to enhance the team’s medical care strategies; and·        Handle acute injuries and provide immediate on-field care as necessary during practices and Austin FC matches; and ·        Collaborate with high performance staff to coordinate treatment plans and maintain clear and concise communication with players, coaches, doctors, and high performance staff regarding injury status, treatment progress, and projected return-to-play timelines; and ·        Liaise with Data & Analytics Manager to keep accurate and detailed records of injuries, treatments and rehabilitation progress and analyze trends to identify potential areas of improvement and adjust treatment plans accordingly; and ·        Educate players on injury prevention techniques, proper recovery, and self-care strategies to reduce the risk of injuries and optimize performance.   You Have:·        Masters or Doctorate in Physical Therapy·        Proven experience as a physical therapist in a sports or athletic setting, preferably with professional athletes.  Experience in soccer or with other high-level athletes is a plus.·        NATA/APTA certification required·        Physical Therapist certifications as Specialist in Sports (SCS) or Orthopedic (OCS) Physical Therapy by the American Physical Therapy Association preferred.  Additional certifications in sports rehabilitation or athletic training a plus·        CPR/AED certification required·        The ability to prioritize workload to manage time and tasks·        English and/or Spanish language proficiency is essential and Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus.  Additional languages – even better·        High ability to exercise sounds judgement and discretion·        A commitment to diversity and inclusion both internally and externally·        Effective verbal and written communication skills, with diverse audiences
